The Map on my Back

Concept The Map on my Back

I have decided to leave my country and make a two-year lasting trip to South America which is symbolized by the tattoo that I have placed on my back. This tattoo is the map of South America which I will have get inked further by local tattoo artists on my route marking all the places that I will visit during my journey.

That’s why I call this project The map on my back.

Route...!

Why South America? First of all I chose for this continent because I have always been impressed by the great civilizations and people that have lived on this geography in ancient history. It wouldn’t be enough to mention the Incas and Mayas, Simon Bolivar, Che Guevara, Pizarro, Eva Peron and many other valuable persons who changed the history of South America. These brave persons captured my attention and inspired me to travel to this continent.

South America is enriched by various cultures and lives that cannot be read in books, I feel the urge to experience them myself. I imagine that it should be an extraordinary feeling to be on the lands of South America and to breathe the same air as those people and cultures. I feel the same joy about the idea of visiting the Mitad Del Mundo on the axis of equator and to become one being physically on two hemispheres, feeling the mystery of the lost Inca Town at Macchu Picchu, thinking about the 8 million workers that passed away in the mines of Potosi and the way Europe got rich from this, thinking about why Darwin chose for the Galapagos island to write the Origin of Species, witnessing the horizon becoming one with the sky at the Uyuni salt lake, trying to understand why Neil Armstrong chose for this continent to visit right after getting back to earth, to go to the swimming islands on the world’s highest lake Titikaka on local boats, to become wet under the Iguazu and Angel Waterfalls..

These are just a fraction of the journey that I will be making with deep passion in my heart.
